Project Detail

The Tsawwassen Ferry Terminal is BC Ferries largest and most environmentally
exposed terminal. The North and South breakwaters protect vessels from adverse
weather conditions and provide landing zones and navigational protection against
tidal current flows. This Project was for the structural life extension to the North
and South Breakwaters and consisted of coordinating deliveries with steel pipe pile
supplier appointed by BC Ferries; transfer of site steel pipe piles stored at BC Ferries
Fleet Maintenance Unit; temporarily remove and reinstate electrical, utilities and slab
hardware; replace select cathodic protection components affected by construction staging
and activities; install steel pipe piles; supply and install two levels of steel straps across
the face of the cells and connect the straps to the piles; supply and install patching of
the steel sheet piles as required; supply, install, and tension anchor rods through the pile
pairs at the cell intersection; supply and install new guardrails, handrails and bollards as
indicated; replace all fall protection points as indicated; install BC Ferries-supplied timber
fender panel at N10 on North breakwater; and supply and install timber elements at S10
on South Breakwater.
